Every week in the UK, an average of 20 tradesmen – mostly carpenters, electricians and plumbers – will die from mesothelioma or other asbestosis diseases, according to the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).

Lack of asbestos awareness to the risk of exposure during it’s peak usage as an insulation and fire retardant product was never simply confined to the most well known ‘black spots’ of British industry, such as shipbuilding and the railways, textile manufacture, iron and steel foundries, building and construction, vehicle assembly.

New research suggests that both age and gender differences can influence susceptibility to developing the fatal and incurable asbestos-related cancer, mesothelioma, and the survival rate at the point of confirmed diagnosis.
