Lord Alton’s support for Mesothelioma Victims
Lord Alton of Liverpool has shown his support for asbestos claimants, suggesting amendments to the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill (LASPO Bill) that is currently being considered by the House of Lords.
The control and management of asbestos known to be present in both private and public sector buildings, including over three quarters of all state schools in England and Wales, is under severe threat as the Government slash the budget of the Health and Safety Executive ( HSE ) by a swingeing 35 per cent.
Frequent reporting in the press has helped raise better asbestos awareness to its continuing presence in many public, commercial and residential buildings around the country, from schools, hospitals, libraries and department stores to factories, foundries, assembly plants, housing estates and private dwellings.
The Medway towns have the second highest death rate from an asbestos-related cancer in England and Wales, a report has shown.
The 29th of February only comes round once in every four years but in 2012 the day was given special prominence by a short but poignant act of commemoration to remember all those unfortunate men and women who have died as a result of falling victim to the incurable mesothelioma cancer and other asbestosis diseases.
