Seeking Advice From Asbestos Lawyers
All too often, seeking advice from an asbestos lawyer can be delayed because the plaintiff was unaware that they may have contracted an asbestos-related condition due to lack of prior asbestos awareness and information, or had attributed symptoms to other possible causes, such as heavy cigarette smoking. The long latency period may also obscure the link to a possible original asbestos exposure and the subsequent appearance of asbestosis symptoms.
The Problem With Mesothelioma
Asbestos exposure is almost always linked to asbestosis or the more aggressive and fatal mesothelioma. Once the microscopic fibres of asbestos material enter the body and embed themselves in the mesothelium – the membranes which line the chest and abdominal cavities, and cover the lungs, heart and abdomen – they irritate the surrounding cells, causing them to replicate randomly and uncontrollably, and develop into a malignant tumour.
Asbestos Exposure Across The Class Divide
Asbestos exposure, leading to fatal diseases such as mesothelioma, tends to be thought of as predominantly affecting sections of society who were either involved in the manufacture of, or worked with asbestos products. The risk spread to affect individuals who were inadvertently the victim of asbestos exposure in occupational locations where the manufactured asbestos products, e.g. ceiling tiles, were often found, such as in schools and colleges.
The Construction Safety Campaign has just this week released details of a mass rally protest against the Canadian industry export of asbestos to the developing world, to be held on Canada’s National Day, Thursday 1st July, at Canada House, Trafalgar Square, London.
The evolution of legislation, which aims to update regulations dealing with the management of asbestos, has been dependent on raising asbestos awareness, campaigning for change and seeking redress through the law courts for asbestos compensation entitlement.
