Incredible though it may seem in 2010, there is still the very real possibility of being exposed to asbestos contained in brake linings, clutches and gaskets of older vehicles manufactured before the 1970s. More worryingly, automobiles are imported from countries where individual parts have been produced in factories still using asbestos as a cheap source material.

Assertions that the present dangers of contracting an asbestos related disease are considerably reduced as a result of the banning of its use in products or heightened asbestos awareness, are shown to be false every time Government statistics and anecdotal evidence are released. Consistently rising asbestos compensation figures show very clearly that more people are contracting asbestos-related cancers such as asbestosis and mesothelioma.

The widespread use of asbestos as a cost effective, versatile building material during the last century has literally, left a deadly legacy hanging over our heads!

The recent death of former Sex Pistols Manager, Malcolm McLaren, aged 64, may have been caused by exposure to asbestos at ‘Sex’, his Kings Road fashion clothes store, over thirty years ago, and which may have led to contracting the aggressive form of asbestos-related cancer, mesothelioma.

Commencing 2010, Action Mesothelioma Day will be held each year on the first Friday in July  2010 is on Friday, 2nd July, 2010. Manchester details as follows:
