Exposure to asbestos may not always cause mesothelioma. A history of heavy asbestos exposure may still only cause less than 10% to develop mesothelioma, yet the number reaches 80% for those developing pleural mesothelioma. It’s very clear that exposure to asbestos increases the risk of mesothelioma.
