The Danger of Power Stations
It was reported in Hazards Magazine/Oct/Dec09 that a former power station worker for the CEGB at Skelton Grange suffered a massive blow when not only was he diagnosed with asbestosis but his wife contracted mesothelioma seemingly from cleaning her husbands work clothes.
Directors Held Accountable
The bosses of Stalybridge engineering firm Vernon & Roberts have been ordered to hand over £60,000 to the widow of Frederick Hughes who sadly died of mesothelioma after being exposed to working with asbestos at the firm.
Companies Prosecuted over Asbestos Exposure
Noble Gift Packaging and A&T Roofing where fined a total of nearly a £120,000 after A&T Roofing removed a roof lined with 3,000 square meters of asbestos insulating board. Workers from the company where not provided with effective protection even after the company knew the material contained amosite. The actions of the company where called “Unpardonable” by the HSE.
